Danish firm to build wind component factory in Kansas

Danish company Jupiter Group is to open a new manufacturing facility for wind turbine components in Kansas.

The establishment of a new 41,000 square foot facility in Junction City should create around 120 jobs.

The company is expected to begin operations at the site on Mid America Drive by August 1.

Jupiter produces composite components for wind turbines including nacelle covers and spinners, as well as wooden kit structures used to build wind turbine blades.

The new Junction City facility will allow the Jupiter Group to service various wind energy clients throughout the Midwest. The company said Kansas would give it particularly good access to the North American Wind Corridor.

Jupiter is planning to open the facility with 15-30 employees initially, before adding as many as 100 more staff over the next few years.

The project has been supported by the Kansas Department of Commerce with assistance from the Junction City-Geary County Economic Development Commission.

Announcing the project, Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson said it was a “great day” for his state’s wind industry.

He said: “We’re proud to welcome an international company like the Jupiter Group to Kansas. Our outstanding business climate, and geographical advantage in the Wind Corridor, has once again paid off. With a continued focus and commitment to this industry, Kansas will become a major hub for wind farms and turbine factories, bringing green jobs to Kansas and clean energy to America.”

The Jupiter Group facility will be the third new wind energy manufacturing facility in Kansas this year. Siemens Energy is developing a $35 million nacelle production facility in Hutchinson, while South Carolina company Tindall Corporation is developing a $66 million wind tower base facility in Newton.
