Solar Power Inc to install 2MW PV for California schools

March 29, 2010

Solar Power, Inc., has won a contract to install eight solar systems to cover parking lots for seven schools and a school district office building in Southern California.

The company based in Roseville, CA, will install eight photovoltaic systems for the Baldwin Park Unified School District totalling 2.24 megawatts of generating capacity.

Solar Power (OTCBB: SOPW) said the systems would deliver around 3.246 million kilowatt-hours of power each year, representing $22.6 million in cost savings for the school district over the next 25 years.

This is exactly the type of cost-saving project most school districts are looking for today.” - Mark Skvarma, Baldwin Park Unified School District

The district should also receive $5 million in performance-based incentive payments over the 25-year lifetime of the solar systems.

Solar Power, which manufactures its own solar modules at facilities in China, said construction of the Baldwin Park systems would begin in the summer of 2010.

Mark Skvarna, Superintendent for Baldwin Park Unified School District, said the project had been in the pipeline for a while, and that his District was “very excited” to get installation under way.

Mr Skvarma said: “This is exactly the type of cost-saving project most school districts are looking for today. Not only will we be able to significantly reduce our operating costs and have a positive impact on the environment, we are freeing funds for our core mission which is educating our students.”

The Baldwin Park Superintendent added that the project would have a beneficial impact on the local community in terms of construction jobs.

Peaq

Solar Power will use its Peaq solar shade structure system for the Baldwin Park project, systems designed to provide cover over parking lots for the seven schools and the district office.

Brad Ferrell, President of Business Development for Solar Power, Inc., said: “Our system designs are helping the school district achieve fiscal goals at each of the schools at the lowest possible cost.”

Solar Power, which was founded in 2005, designs, manufactures and installs its own silicon-based photovoltaic solar systems, through a network of dealerships in nine US states.
