Battery manufacturer Saft has broken ground on a new lithium-ion battery factory at Cecil Commerce Center in Jacksonville, Florida. The plant will produce $300 million worth of batteries a year for military hybrid vehicles, along with smart grid systems and energy storage systems to be combined with renewable energy generators. It will be Saft’s 16th factory worldwide and sixth in the US, and should begin production in the second half of 2011.
