Ingeteam to build wind and solar manufacturing plant in Milwaukee

February 17, 2010

Spanish engineering company Ingeteam is to invest $15 million in a combined solar and wind technology manufacturing plant in Wisconsin.

The plant to be located in Milwaukee will produce wind power generators and converters, along with solar photovoltaic converters.

The company, which has offices in Santa Clara, California, already manages wind turbine operation and maintenance activities from a facility in Mequon, Wisconsin.

Ingeteam claims a worldwide market share for its wind power systems of between 12 and 15%, and hopes the new factory will help this to increase.

From early 2011, it should have the capacity to produce the equivalent of 7,500MW of generators each year, the company said, estimating that the plant will employ 275 people by 2015.

Several converter/generator product ranges will be manufactured at the new facility, from 1.5 to 5 MW of power for wind equipment and 2.5 to 500kW for solar PV converters.

In the medium term, Ingeteam intends to add testing capabilities to the 33,500 square metre site.

Ingeteam today manages more than 2,200 MW distributed over 60 wind farms all over the world.
