Tindall to build wind tower base factory in Kansas

January 28, 2010

Concrete component manufacturer Tindall Corporation has secured $16.7 million in tax credits to build a new wind tower base production plant in Kansas.

The company based in Spartanburg, South Carolina, was awarded funding from the Recovery Act to help towards its sixth production plant, planned for Newton, 25 miles north of Wichita.

The new facility will produce the company’s Atlas CTB™ Concrete Wind Tower Bases.

William Lowndes, III, Tindall’s Chairman and CEO, said: “The tax credit is vital to moving this project forward in the next year to create new jobs and positively impact the wind energy market.”

Tindall’s Atlas CTB wind tower base system is designed to allow wind turbine hub heights of 100 meters and higher.

The bases are assembled on site from precast concrete staves and tube sections.

“Newton’s location in the heart of our nation’s wind corridor makes it an ideal setting for this new manufacturing facility,” said Chris Palumbo, P.E., Tindall’s Vice President of Business Development. “This plant, our sixth manufacturing location in as many states, will be dedicated to the production of Atlas CTB components.”
