California firm installs 914kW solar array for federal building

October 27, 2010

California-based Independent Energy Solutions, Inc., is in the process of installing the first utility-scale solar photovoltaic project for the US General Services Administration.

A reference point for future federal solar projects, the 914-kilowatt array is being built on the rooftop of the Chet Holifield Federal Building in Laguna Niguel, California.

The completed project is expected to produce more than 1.4 million kilowatt-hours of power each year, enough to supply the equivalent of 130 homes.
