ZAP's electric trucks and vans now qualify for up to $2,500 in federal tax credits
California-based electric vehicle producer ZAP Jonway has said its electric truck and van now qualify for a 10% federal tax credit.
The company received confirmation from the Internal Revenue Service that the ZAPTRUCK XL and ZAPVAN Shuttle qualify for up to $2,500 in tax credits from the Recovery Act.
The credits are available for purchases made after February 17, 2009, and before January 1, 2012.
“These tax credits make our ZAP electric trucks and vans even more affordable to operate,” said ZAP CEO Steve Schneider. “Combined with lower fueling and maintenance costs, which can be a third of conventional cars, this can be a great incentive for our customers to integrate electric vehicle technology into their fleets.”
ZAP, which has its headquarters in Santa Rosa, said its electric trucks and vans are ideal for fixed-route deliveries and material-handling applications.
The company recently sold a small fleet to the City of Riverside, California, and has been selling vehicles to the US Government, military, municipalities and both large and small businesses.
The manufacturer states that its fleet vehicles can achieve the equivalent of more than 100 miles per gallon, costing about two cents per mile to run.
ZAP customers are advised to consult their tax advisor for guidance on the tax credits.
The IRS has developed the Form 8834 Qualified Plug-In Electric Vehicle Credit, which will be required to file with the Federal Tax Return that covers the date the vehicle was purchased.
