Valero to offer E85 ethanol fuel in more filling stations

August 31, 2010

Valero says there is growing demand for E85 among Flex Fuel vehicle owners

Fuel company Valero Energy Corporation is to sell ethanol fuel at all of its new Corner Store filling stations.

The firm said it would be selling E-85 fuel, consisting of up to 85% ethanol blended with unleaded gasoline, along with other grades of gasoline and diesel, at new company-owned filling stations as they are built.

It has just started selling E-85 to “Flex Fuel” vehicle owners from a separate, clearly-marked dispenser at its Valero Corner Stores in San Antonio, Texas.

Valero said Flex Fuel vehicles would “grow in popularity” with buyers of new cars and light-duty trucks.

Nearly all gasoline sold at Valero Corner Stores now contains up to 10% ethanol, as part of the fuel company’s requirement to sell ethanol under the US Renewable Fuels Standard.

Flex Fuel vehicles are designed to run on either conventional gasoline or E-85.

“Growing market”

“There are already millions of Flex Fuel vehicles on the road, and there’s a growing market for E-85,” said Gary Arthur, President of Valero’s Retail Division. “As Valero builds new Corner Stores, we will continue to introduce E-85 sales to satisfy this growing demand.”

Valero owns and operates nearly 1,000 Corner Stores in Texas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Wyoming.

The company is also a major ethanol producer, with 10 ethanol plants in the Midwest offering a combined capacity of 1.1 billion gallons per year.
