The company, which has its head office in Annapolis Junction, Maryland, said Ohio has 50% more sunshine per day than Germany, the world leader in solar installations.
It said its new office in Youngstown would serve growing demand in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, including Cleveland, Akron and Columbus.
Astrum began selling solar systems in northeastern Ohio back in April.
It already provides solar installations in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington DC, and is on track to complete more than 500 new installations in 2010.
Ohio Governor Ted Strickland said the company’s new office was a “welcome addition” to his state’s growing solar industry.
Gov Strickland said: “Investments like this are a strong indication that our commitment to Ohio’s advanced energy industry is creating an environment that supports the growth of companies like Astrum Solar to create new Ohio jobs.”
The new office will see 25 staff focused on home installations from Toledo to Pittsburgh.
Astrum Solar President Vadim Polikov, said: “We are thrilled to have expanded into Ohio, where the highly skilled workforce will be instrumental in meeting the increasing demand of residents who want to pursue energy independence by using their own homes to generate clean energy.”
