Valence wins $13m battery order from Smith Electric Vehicles

Valence Technology, Inc., is to provide $13 million worth of batteries for use in Smith all-electric commercial trucks through the remainder of 2010.

Valence, which has its HQ in Austin, Texas, will supply its U-Charge system, a battery based on lithium phosphate technology.

Smith Electric Vehicles produces the Newton, one of the world’s largest battery-powered trucks.
