Federal prisons cut costs with clean energy upgrades

July 21, 2010

Baltimore firm Constellation Energy has completed two clean energy projects at federal correctional institutions in New Jersey and Virginia.

FCI Fairton, NJ, was provided with a 400kW solar photovoltaic system and energy efficiency upgrades, while FCI Petersburg, VA, was installed a new on-site biomass heating system, rooftop solar PV array and a geothermal heat pump system.

The projects are expected to see energy cost savings of more than $2.2 million a year.
