SolarCity offers its SolarLease program at no upfront cost, starting at $30 per month
Residents in Tucson are being offered the chance to switch to solar power for less than a tank of gas each month.
Solar leasing and installation firm SolarCity is extending its SolarLease program to homes and businesses in the Arizona city.
Schools and nonprofits can also join the program, which starts at $30 per month with no upfront cost, subject to credit approval.
The program is supported in part by solar rebates provided by local utility Tucson Electric Power.
It will therefore be available initially to homeowners and businesses served by TEP.
SolarCity’s SolarLease program includes custom design and installation along with repairs and insurance. It also includes SolarCity’s internet-based monitoring service, called SolarGuard.
SolarCity, which has its HQ in Foster City, California, is moving into a new operations facility in Tucson this week, and is currently hiring in the area.
“Tucson is one of the best solar markets in the world,” said Lyndon Rive, CEO of SolarCity. “Tucson has some of the most consistent sunshine in the U.S., and a population that is eager to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.”
Even before moving into its new operations facility in the city, SolarCity has been active in Tucson since 2009, installing hundreds of rooftop solar systems for residents at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
SolarCity currently provides solar power systems for homes and businesses in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon and Texas.
