Oncor expands solar hot water incentives program in Texas

June 16, 2010

Texas electricity company Oncor has extended its $1.6 million solar hot water incentives program to include businesses and the public sector.

The success of the scheme among homeowners has led to the expansion of the scheme, with the Dallas company expecting its customers to install about 1,000 new solar water heating systems in the next three years.

Open to Oncor customers only, the incentives program can cut the cost of a solar water heating system from $4,000-$8,000 down to $1,400-$2,700, depending on the system.

This is a step in the right direction, I wish many utilities will follow Oncor.
Even though solar hot water heaters replace electric water heaters and this reduces electric power consumption and consequently the family electric bill, Oncor decided to help reduce electrical power consumption, apparently against the company vested interest. I salute Oncor!
