NYSERDA provides $2m for flywheel energy storage plant

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority is to provide $2 million towards a frequency regulating plant in Stephentown, New York.
The plant will demonstrate flywheel technology as a way to smooth over the intermittency of renewable wind or solar generation by storing energy in a matrix of flywheels.
The 20MW facility is being developed by Beacon Power Corporation or Tyngsboro, Massachusetts.
